Under construction, the 45,000 gsf Music Arts Center and Walker Auditorium will serve as a multi-use space for a variety of school functions.  The new Music Arts Center will provide modern practice rooms, ensemble rooms and classrooms.  The building will consolidate theater arts, dance arts, fine arts and music arts on the campus.  The Center’s “Pavilion” will house a 715 seat concert hall with state of the art acoustics for performances and rehearsals.  The building will be built of recycled and sustainable materials and will be LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as a “green” building.

 THE CLIENT:

Founded in 1891, The Hotchkiss School is an independent boarding school for students in grades 9 through 12.  Students at Hotchkiss come from across the United States and 19 foreign countries.  The Hotchkiss School strives to develop in students a lifelong love of learning, responsible citizenship, and personal integrity.

OUR RELATIONSHIP:

The Stone House Group (SHG) is providing building commissioning and LEED oversight services for the construction of a new Music Arts Center at The Hotchkiss School.  SHG provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design reviews that led to significant changes in the heating and air conditioning systems for the building.  Life cycle cost analysis was evaluated for various systems and the building will be connected to a newly created central chiller plant for the campus.  Design reviews focused on energy efficiency of mechanical systems, operational strategies and the ability of campus staff to adequately maintain the equipment.  The MEP systems will be physically inspected and performance tested to make sure they conform to the contract documents.  Commissioning is a prerequisite of LEED certification and is endorsed by ASHRAE to ensure that we have safe, healthy and energy efficient buildings.
